Analysis

Yesterday, 29 July 2010, President Obama spoke at the National Urban League Centennial Conference. Essentially the audience was, represented by the groups Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Schott Foundation for Public Education, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, National Coalition for Educating Black Children, National Urban League, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.

Initially, the expectation from the groups would be discussion of the much anticipated “Framework for Providing All Students an Opportunity to Learn”which was released on Monday after much drama.

'A decision was made to finally release it on Monday, the same week as the Urban League convention, and a press conference was scheduled for leaders of the groups to discuss it publicly. The groups were: Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Schott Foundation for Public Education, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, National Coalition for Educating Black Children, National Urban League, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.

What is 'Race to the Top'?

Race to the Top, abbreviated R2T, RTTT or RTT, is a $4.35 billion United States Department of Education program designed to spur reforms in state and local district K-12 education.

It is funded by the ED Recovery Act as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and was announced by President Barack Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on July 24, 2009

While many states have sought to comply with application guidelines, the Race to the Top competition has also encountered opposition from incumbents.

Two major sources of opposition have been from teachers' unions and those opposed to what they see as interference from the federal government.

In explaining why Texas would not be applying for Race to the Top funding, Governor Rick Perry stated, "we would be foolish and irresponsible to place our children’s future in the hands of unelected bureaucrats and special interest groups thousands of miles away in Washington."

Critics further contend that the reforms being promoted are unproven or have been unsuccessful in the past. Former Assistant Secretary of Education Diane Ravitch, for example, commented that empirical evidence "shows clearly that choice, competition and accountability as education reform levers are not working."

Finally, the Economic Policy Institute released a report in April 2010 finding that "the selection of Delaware and Tennessee was subjective and arbitrary, more a matter of bias or chance than a result of these superior compliance with reform policies."

Obama Defends Race to Top

'President Barack Obama is forcefully defending his signature education initiative, the $4.35 billion Race to the Top program, which has come under fire from civil rights groups that worry the competitive nature of the program creates a system of winners and losers that could hinder schools serving poor and minority students.'

Concerns Over Agenda

A few days before the speech, a coalition of civil rights groups—including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the National Urban League—called on U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to rework significant pieces of the administration’s K-12 agenda, including Race to the Top.

They said the competitive program rewards states that can afford to invest in grant applications, potentially leaving out many under-resourced schools that serve poor and minority children. The deeper one looks into one new government program after another ..from No Child Left Behind to now Obama's multiple knee jerk programs “Framework for Providing All Students an Opportunity to Learn”, and Race to the Top and others... yes the key element to economic growth is and always has been education.

The problem isn't nor ever has been the people on either side of the issue ...but rather inept and corrupt interests.

The greatest problem behind ineptitude and corruption in government is the apathy and complacency amongst We the People which enabled decades of momentum for the impending train wreck America is facing.

However now, its not about minorities or 'people of color' ...its about all Americans and our children ...and declining rapidly.

Since 2009, the American culture has systematically been reduced to where Obama's 'redistribution of wealth' ( Social Justice ) efforts has affected everyone to the point of families with children are entering a lifestyle of indigence, homelessness and government dependency who have never experienced a culture known by many for generations.

Rather than trillions for bailouts and pork packages in the name of stimulus ...if the 'elite' and government officials thought it through ...

...'By making the tools and resources available together with counseling, guidance and other support in paving the way for a better more productive future rather than throwing dollars to support dependency that merely enables the problem rather than breaking the cycles which cause the problem, indigent children and their families would be proud contributing members of the community and a strength for America’s future. '

By default as a nation, Americans are caught in the consequences of their own human behavior.

Americans are compared world wide as 'sheeple'* ... 'The challenge is to get sheep to quit thinking and acting like sheep and start thinking and acting like foxes and time is running out.'

'It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.'

'First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.'

'The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.'

Economics of Education

'At some point, ... it will be too late for effective political action. ... there reaches a point where it won’t matter who’s president and it won’t matter how devoted the global community is ...the damage will be out of control.

Economic growth, National Security, well being ... many benefits can be enjoyed by a culture with the right priorities.

When God says 'my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge' one should look closely at all the reasons why.

'If we rethink investment strategy for strengthening America’s (Humanity’s) future we will find a huge resource with infinite rewards that will affect the security and prosperity of the world as a whole.' 'Mission for America's Future'.

It's time individual Americans take responsibility to get beyond snippets and sound-bytes and take initiative to research what's really going on before its too late to make an intelligent decision in the interest of their future freedom, security and well being.
